History

As the cherished motherland of famous Italian poet Gabriele D’Annunzio, the seacoast town of San Vito Chietino offers a treasured past of muses and loves. Adjacent is the ancient Roman town of Lanciano and Ortona, where past battles were fought with passion. It is said that the renowned writer D’Annunzio was inspired by the dreamy effervescence of San Vito, as he spent the summer of 1889 there with his forbidden lover, Barbarella. D’Annunzio often wrote of the Abruzzese landscape; once declaring that it had everything one needs to be happy in his narrative Terra Vergine.
